The 2003 Liberty Homecoming game pits the Lancers against Foothills League rival, Pueblo Central. The game is re-match of last season's thriller in Pueblo at Dutch Clark Stadium. Central held a commanding 21-7 lead midway through the fourth quarter, before the Lancer offense came alive. They scored two touchdowns to send it to overtime and then won it with a touchdown on their first overtime possession. This season, the Lancers are a young football team with a lot of potential. They will be inexperienced at quarterback, linebacker, and the offensive and defensive lines. The play of their lines will be key in this game. Liberty head coach Dick Geddes commented that Pueblo Central is big and physical along the offensive and defensive lines, which will be a challenge for the Lancers smallish and inexperienced lines. Geddes also noted that Central returns their quarterback and top running back from last season, which will make them formidable on offense. Plus, the motivational edge should go to Central, as they look to avenge last season's disappointing loss. When you add all these factors together, it looks like the Lancers will have their hands full and will have to play an excellent game to come away with a homecoming victory.
